We can live without religion and meditation, but we cannot survive without human affection. ~Dalai Lama

I offer you peace. I offer you love. I offer you friendship. I see your beauty. I hear your need. I feel your feelings My wisdom flows from the Highest Source. I salute that Source in you. Let us work together for unity and love. ~Mahatma Gandhi

On this Mother's Day, we celebrate unconditional love.  Whether you grew up feeling that kind of love from your mother or not, there was a moment in time when your birth itself spoke much louder than anything your mother ever said or did, and from that moment on, you were touched by unconditional love.  This is the undeniable partnership between a mother and the Universe, an unconditional love forged by acceptance and release.

It doesn't matter now what your relationship is like with your mother.  That moment has come and gone, and today it is important only to know that she brought you into a loving Universe that celebrates your birth with every breath you take and give back.  Love exists in the poetry of your genetic code, in the beauty of the dance of your 50 trillion cells together, in the song of your heart, the light in your eyes, the warmth of your smile, the lightness of your breath passing back and forth between you and the Unknown, and the support and embrace of this Earth that holds us close if we would but only notice.

MOENCHENGLADBACH, GERMANY - MAY 17: Tibetan S...So when you kneel and press your head to the earth, it is not because you have to bow to a deity.  If anything, the miracle and the deity is you.  The Earth and the Universe recognize you always in every moment, in every step and in every breath.  There is no greater love than that, and yet we look for reassurance--we're not certain.

Just try it once--kneel and press your head to the earth, and see what you feel.  In yoga, we call it "Child's Pose", but it's also called "Wisdom Pose", because if you practice it, and relax into it totally, it will speak to you of the truth.  It opens up your body, too, from the neck, the spine, the sacrum down into the hips, thighs and tops of the feet.  You relax, and release all your body weight down into the earth as you open up.  You can feel the calling of the Earth's rhythms, the most calming of all rhythms to our heartbeat and nervous system, and when you get in sync with that, you are in sync with the feeling of Unconditional Love.  If you listen longer, if you relax more, you will start to release whatever is not love into the earth.

When you do this, you open your energy up--all of it--light and dark, love and unloved, open and hidden.  The blockages dissolve, and the energy of love starts to flow freely.  You are a child of the Universe, with every cell made up of the elements of this earth.  Nothing can disconnect you from this power except you, and even then the most you can do is go back unwillingly.  But why not let it flow?  The support is there for you always, and right now.
